Mounjaro and weight loss injections 💉

Posted by: Editor-Southall - Posted on:

You might hear in the news soon that weight loss injections can be prescribed by your GP practice

Whilst this is true, the criteria to qualify will be very strict and we will be in touch with patients when it is available

From the 9,500 patients registered at our practice, we think only around 10 patients will qualify under the guidelines

Please don’t book an appointment yet about Mounjaro

To avoid disappointment and wasted appointments, please check your eligibility below:

Checklist

  • Your BMI must be above 40. You can check your BMI here if you know your height and weight. We will check your height and weight at your appointment, so it must be accurate.
  • As well as a BMI over 40, you must have a confirmed diagnosis of at least four out of the following five health conditions:
    – Hypertension (high blood pressure) needing medication
    – Sleep apnoea (confirmed at a sleep clinic)
    – Type 2 diabetes
    – Cardiovascular disease (heart disease, vascular disease or stroke)
    – Hypercholesterolaemia (high cholesterol)

If you don’t meet all of these criteria, your GP will not be able to prescribe you Mounjaro for weight loss under the current guidelines

We will be in touch with patients who will be eligible as it is rolled out across the country

There are many other weight loss services available and we recommend patients who are at high-risk of diabetes to enrol in the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme, patients with diabetes to enrol in the Diabetes Structured Education Programme and patients who have a BMI 30+ to ask for a referral to the NHS Weight Management Service for diet, lifestyle and exercise advice
